2020 TRIP GIVEAWAY Every year Aikens Lake awards a free trip to one of our valued guests. We annually compile all our Master Angler and Century Club entries into a draw for one lucky angler to win a free trip to Aikens Lake in the upcoming season. In 2019, we had 146 entries. The lucky winner (chosen by a random number generator) was Mr. Gary Ward from Burlington, ON. Gary has been a frequent visitor to Aikens Lake since his first trip in 2007. The avid fisherman is a pike-boating machine. However, on top of his fishing prowess he is a dynamite poker player and an astute crib player. Congratulations Big G! Looking forward to seeing you next season. Let’s call him Phil. Phil works his butt off. He doesn’t ask for much; a hug from his kids, a cold bottle of suds on a warm summer evening, and to maybe take in some football on any given Sunday. Phil is content. His buddies still call from time to time, but it seems catching up with them is more of a hap-hazard event of late. That’s ok; he’s taken a liking to rediscovering his favorite childhood memories through the eyes of his kids. His daughter just last week reeled in her first perch off the pier. She was beaming, but dad had the biggest smile. The boy is too young to last more than 10 minutes at anything, yet when they head out in the boat, he morphs into this mini version of the old man: driven, focused and eager for the next bite. Jennifer’s aim has always been to exceed expectations. She’s excelled and garnered a well-deserved reputation as a difference maker. Her company has seen unprecedented growth. Jennifer knows what it takes to keep her clientele, her team and her investors happy. Moreover, it is that awareness that sets Jennifer apart; the ability to see value in each of her forays. She’s wanted to share her gratitude with these people that form the integral cogs of her success. Thirty years, it’s a long time when you think about it. My best years spent together with her. Sure, it wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops, but man, what an amazing ride. When I look at her, I still see her standing there those many years ago, talking uninterestedly with Jack from Purchasing, boredly stirring her coffee. I don’t know why I decided then and there to ask her for “help” with my accounting, but am I ever glad I did. The rest, dare I say, is history. We rarely took time for ourselves. Between the kids, the job and everything else it was hard to get away. But now it’s time for us again. Just me, my sweetheart and a special getaway. Sound familiar?
